About Safe Harbour Run

First held in 2009, this run has provided the Huron Women's Shelter with valuable resources to support women and children in their time of need. Over the period, 2012 through 2015, it has attracted hundreds of participants in a multitude of run disciplines. Throughout its history, it has been an integral part of Runners' Choice Runpiker Series that rewards runners who enter multiple events.

After a one-year hiatus, it returns in 2017 with a new partner, Blue Bayfield. Since the run has always been held in this charming historical village, the marriage of this environmental body and the Huron Women's Shelter is a natural fit. Blue Bayfield is committed to the protection of lakes and rivers. The term Safe Harbour has duel meaning. It implies a safe place for women and children and it also makes the case for a safe water environment for all living things.

The Runners’ Choice Runpiker Series is a group of 8 events across South West Ontario. Events in the series take place in Goderich, Woodstock, Ingersoll, Embro, Bayfield, St. Mary’s, Stratford and The Pinery. Any runner that completes 5 or more races in the series will receive a special gift provided by Runners’ Choice in London and be eligible for one of the grand prizes provided by each event. Runners’ Choice continues to support these events as we know how important they are to the communities they support.

our 2017 partners

Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services serves all of Huron County by providing a safe and caring environment for women and their children experiencing all types of abuse. Here women are empowered as they make changes in their lives. They provide the following services: Emergency Shelter, 24/7 Support and Information Phone Line, Second Stage Housing & Counselling.

Blue Bayfield is an established environmental body that has received international recognition for the protection of our greatest resource, water.  It recently undertook to install 5 water refill stations in Bayfield. This effort combined with providing over 200 refillable bottles to the community and beyond has reduced the amount of plastic that may have found its way into the lake or rivers. Over a nine-month period, over 15,000 bottles have been filled in these stations. In addition, it has successfully promoted the elimination of styrofoam takeout packaging at major community events and is seeking to expand this project.
